Luís Ferreira Alves: Um olhar, por outras objectivas

Libertarian and committed, gifted with the historical heritage of a peculiar Porto bourgeoisie – which has always dressed with irreverence and dignity any social dance – Luis Ferreira Alves, in his quiet plurality, has revealed to us an important personal side, little known by the general public, of his intimate humanist affection: the enthusiasm and passion dedicated to the Inclusion/Reclusion Project, has well underlined how behind a camera, one can transmit and make discover the trace and sense of humanity that a prison establishment can itself contain and constitute. Our visits to the prison of Custóias, under the medical pretext of fighting a scourge that is both social and clinical, such as Hepatitis C, were a joint expression of a deep feeling of solidarity and social sensitivity. As we say in the book we edited, we intended to turn the invisible space of vulnerable populations into a new territory of intervention. And we succeeded.
